Dan Brown said “we all fear what we do not know”, and so until someone learns about death it’s natural to have a fear of it and its permanence.
When I was 19, my best friend Anthony Eugene Evans passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident. Losing someone so close to me, at a point in my life where I was finding my place in the world as a young man, taught me a lot about death as well as myself. It taught me the importance and seriousness of death. It taught me how to grieve - how to understand and process death. It also taught me how to honor and respect the dead. The biggest gift I received from the experience was the insight to be able to help others process and understand death when it happens in their lives. Rather than fear death, I now have a healthy respect and relationship with it.
It’s the one thing guaranteed in life, after all.
